Release – NZ Customs – TSW

This release provides a change to the way Expedient communicates with NZ Customs. Expedient will now communicate directly to the Trade Single Window (TSW) Web Service, rather than through B2B (EC Networks).

There is no change to the way users add and submit entries to NZ Customs within the Expedient screens. This is a change to the background communications process only.

The new communication path means there are two new submission types that you may see in the Customs screens during the entry lodgement

Submission Type

Short Description

Technical Description

‘I’

In Progress

NZ Customs have acknowledged that they have received the submission, and are currently processing the message and will return an acceptance/failure response shortly.

‘T’

Re-Trying

The message was unable to be sent to NZ Customs, and will be re-sent again after a period of time (~5 minutes). This prevents users having to manually re-trigger messages. This may happen if NZ Customs Server is having technical issues or is unreachable due to downtime for maintenance.

EDI Message History

The direct communication means that Expedient can more clearly show the message history with NZ Customs for each Entry. In the Custom Import Entry screen use the Communications option ‘EDI History’ to see the status, date and time that NZ Customs received the submission message. Expedient can now know immediately that NZ Customs have received the submission.

TSW Control

The “TSW Control” group informs the user of the status, date and time that NZ Customs received the submission message. Unlike the current process, we are able to know if NZ Customs have received the message immediately. An error ‘ER’ status here likely means there is a problem connecting with the NZ Customs server, and that the Entry will continue to re-send periodically until a connection can be made.

If you have an ‘OK’ TSW Control Status but do not have a Customs Response status, it means that NZ Customs have received your submission, and are currently processing the message. You should receive a response shortly that will update the Customs Response Status and other related information.

TSW Submission History

The “Submission History” group will show all submission attempts made to the NZ Customs server for the highlighted message. This will give a detailed overview of each attempt, which can be reviewed to understand any issues that arise. If a submission continually fails, users should alert Expedient Software so that the submission can be investigated and resolved.

TSW Response History

The “Response History” group will show all response messages received from NZ Customs that relate to this Entry. This will give a detailed overview of each response.

Submission Errors

The list of Submission Error Codes and their error/advice descriptions returned from NZ Customs has been updated within the Expedient System. The number of known listed errors has increased from 277 to 486.
